The second largest barrier reef in the world, Mexican Caribbean scuba diving is second only to the great barrier reef in Australia. Cozumel was Jacque Costeau's favorite reef system.

Scuba diving here is essentially drift diving, meaning you exert less energy and can stay down longer. As you slowly sink into the clear blue water you will be carried gently along by the current past the most incredible coral reef formations in the world. Thousands of brightly colored fish and lush coral formations will greet you. The boat above follows your bubbles as you witness colors rarely seen at this depth. Our dive instructor on our last two trips was Manuel Mola, an SSI advanced divemaster with more than 5000 certified dives. Safety is always his biggest concern and he will endeavor to bring a higher level of education to his students than the typical resort dive course. He teaches many specialty courses and is famous for his underwater photography.

Manuel started diving in 1978, when he lived in Cuba. Unable to obtain underwater photographic equipment, he made his own underwater camera from a volleyball innertube and the lens from a dive mask. From this humble beginning he has gone on to earn international fame for his underwater photography. His artistic eye captures the aquatic beauty he sees with his heart. He has won several international photography competitions in Cuba. His photos have been published worldwide in venues such as Sport Diver Magazine, Sub Magazine (Italy), Buceadores Magazine (Spain), Espacio Profundidad (Mexico), Fathom magazine, and National Geographic. His photos are also featured in the book Scuba Cuba.

In addition to having obtained the top level in SSI, Manuel is a 3-star CMAS instructor, which is the highest level obtainable in that organization. He was Vice-President of the Underwater Photography Cuba Federation, and was one of only five board members in the world of the CMAS underwater commission of which Jacque Cousteau was president. He held this position for four years, before leaving Cuba for Cozumel. He also helped organize the CMAS World Championship of Underwater Photography in 1992. He participated in the competition in France in 2001. He has dived all over the world, but currently makes his home in Cozumel.
