Scuba Dive in Playa del Carmen, Mexico!

OK, we admit it, we're nuts! We went on a scuba trip and loved every adventurous second of it! Playa del Carmen is just an hour south of Cancun. Cozumel is just a few miles offshore and both are destination places for many of today's adventure-seeking brides and grooms. The Mexican Caribbean offers the finest snorkeling and scuba-diving in the world.

Why shouldn't your honeymoon be an adventure? If you're not one for relaxing on the beach doing nothing all day, look into one of the most exciting adventures on earth. Let your spouse be your scuba buddy as you discover undersea turtles, awesome reef formations, and brightly colored fish. Share an experience that you will talk about forever, and begin a new hobby that you can share for years to come!

The second largest barrier reef in the world, Mexican Caribbean scuba diving is second only to the great barrier reef in Australia. Cozumel was Jacque Costeau's favorite reef system.

Scuba diving here is essentially drift diving, meaning you exert less energy and can stay down longer. As you slowly sink into the clear blue water you will be carried gently along by the current past the most incredible coral reef formations in the world. Thousands of brightly colored fish and lush coral formations will greet you. The boat above follows your bubbles as you witness colors rarely seen at this depth. The water is so incredibly transparent that visibility often exceeds 100 feet and you discover why this is one of the world's top diving locations. Only reluctantly will you surface--but the boat will be right there to take you to your next dive.

Our dive instructor on our last two trips was Manuel Mola, an SSI advanced divemaster with more than 5000 certified dives. Safety is always his biggest concern and he will endeavor to bring a higher level of education to his students than the typical resort dive course. He teaches many specialty courses and is famous for his underwater photography.

Left: Manuel with his wife and daughter. Learn to dive from one of the most experienced and famous divers in the Caribbean. Manuel Mola has been a platinum level SSI pro since 2002. A small but very special group of divers around the world are privileged to carry the SSI Platinum Pro 5000 Diver Card - the highest level of recognition in the diving industry.
Few divers will ever reach this highly prestigious level of certification.  Only the most committed to the sport can accomplish over 5000 dives.  In fact, this award can only be received after application and review by the Platinum Pro 5000 Committee, which consists of SSI, Skin Diver Magazine and other other industry leaders. For more information about SSI, see www.ssiusa.com.
Manuel started diving in 1978, when he lived in Cuba. Unable to obtain underwater photographic equipment, he made his own underwater camera from a volleyball innertube and the lens from a dive mask. From this humble beginning he has gone on to earn international fame for his underwater photography. His artistic eye captures the aquatic beauty he sees with his heart. He has won several international photography competitions in Cuba. His photos have been published worldwide in venues such as Sport Diver Magazine, Sub Magazine (Italy), Buceadores Magazine (Spain), Espacio Profundidad (Mexico), Fathom magazine, and National Geographic. His photos are also featured in the book Scuba Cuba.

In addition to having obtained the top level in SSI, Manuel is a 3-star CMAS instructor, which is the highest level obtainable in that organization. He was Vice-President of the Underwater Photography Cuba Federaton, and was one of only five board membrs in the world of the CMAS underwater commission of which Jacque Costeau was president. He held this position for four years, before leaving Cuba for Cozumel. He also helped organize the CMAS World Championship of Underwater Photography in 1992. He participated in the competition in France in 2001. He has dived all over the world, but currently makes his home in Cozumel.

Manuel has a degree in Physics from the University of Havana in Cuba.
Whether you are a beginning diver or a seasoned diver who wishes to improve your diving techniques, Manuel has something to offer. Frustrated with your underwater photography? Let Manuel take you to a new level of photographic excellence. Tired of keeping up with a group? Individual instruction will make you feel more secure and give you a chance to develop your skills safely and quickly.

A complete selection of modern scuba gear is included with your dive. Fins, masks, and snorkels are available at no extra charge, but it is suggested that you pick up your own mask for the best fit. Here are some of our most popular dives. Our rates are highly competitive with the other dive shops on the island. The main advantage of diving with us is the experience of our divemasters and our committment to safety and fun!

  • Introduction to Scuba (2 to 4 hours, including gear). All fees and dives apply to your open water course if you decide afterwards that scuba lessons are for you! (you must take the course within 48 hours).

  • Refresher Course (for divers who have not been diving for over 1 year). Price will depend on hours.

  • Open water private lesson. Get your open water certification! (3 days minimum) (ask about our low family rates!)

  • Manuel is a world-famous underwater photographer and specializes in teaching underwater photography to both beginning and advanced photographers. Ask about our low rates!

  • Boat dives to your favorite reef (2 tanks). Southern reefs and specialty sites are slightly higher. Dives include snacks (or full lunch), drinks and water. Weights and tanks are also furnished. There is a $2.00 bracelet that must be purchased for each diver if we dive in the Marine Park.

  • Shore dives are available for a lower rate per person. The close proximity of reefs to the shore in many places on the island make this a wonderful experience.

  • Cavern Diving in the Cenotes of the Yucatan Mainland (minimum 2 people). This trip includes transportation to the mainland and a 2-tank dive in the Cenotes. To do this dive you should have a wetsuit for cold water temperatures of 70f. This is not an especially difficult dive, but is not for novices. You must be able to maintain neutral bouyancy at all times.

  • Night Dives from shore, including lights (minimum 2 people). This is our most popular dive! Many divers love night diving better than any other dive.

  • Cave diving, minimum of two people. You may obtain your certification for cave and night diving while in Cozumel.
